Aggregated Data Views
Aggregated Data Views are used to aggregate data from one or more
Measurement Jobs and display this
aggregated data. For example, a site may have two connections to JANET,
and it may be desirable to show the total amount of traffic going into
and out of their two connections.
Viewing Aggregated Data View Details
To view the details of an existing Aggregated Data View, you must navigate to it using either
the Manage Aggregated Data Views Page (select "Graphs" from the Menu Bar then
"Agg. Data Views" from the Side Menu),
the Netsight Explorer, or search for it
using the Search page. Click the
appropriate Aggregated Data View to show the View Aggregated Data View Details page. This page shows
the details of the Aggregated Data View, including:
-
The Aggregated Data View's Name, Description and Location within Netsight.
-
How the data is being aggregated (e.g. Minimum, Sum, etc.)
-
A list of all component series that are aggregated together in this view.
Aggregated Data Views can have multiple series, with each series aggregating
together a number of component series.
Creating and Editing Aggregated Data Views
To create edit, and delete Aggregated Data Views,
write access
must be enabled on the system. You must also have been granted the appropriate
permissions to carry out the operation.
Creating a new Aggregated Data View
When write access is enabled, you can access the Create Aggregated Data View page in two ways.
One way is to locate the Aggregated Data Views section in a Folder in the
Netsight Explorer and click on the "New"
link. The other way is to select "Graph" from the
Menu Bar, then
"Agg. Data Views" from the
Side Menu and click on the "New..." link.
In either case, this leads you to the
Create a New Aggregated Data View page.
-
Enter a Display Name for the Aggregated Data View. If you wish, you can also enter a description.
-
Select the Aggregation Type to use from the drop-down list.
-
Set the Admin Location. You can browse for this using the Explorer. Alternatively,
if you've arrived here by clicking the "New" link in the Aggregated Data Views section
of the Explorer, this will be filled out for you.
-
If you wish, choose a label for the Y-axis of the graph. If you don't specify a
Y-Axis Label, the system will use the default label for the units that the data is
measured in.
-
Choose the data sources for the View as described below.
-
Click "OK" to create the Aggregated Data View
-
Click "Cancel" at any time to abort creation of the Aggregated Data View.
Selecting the Data Sources
At the bottom of the page is a list of 'series'. These group together the data
sources that are aggregated together. The "Add new series..." link will add
another series to the page.
You can add a data source to a series by either:
-
choosing a reporting path, and then choosing a source of data from a job
that targets one end of the job.
-
choosing a job, and then choosing a source of data from this job.
-
choosing a node, and then choosing a source of data from a job that targets
this node.
You can click "Remove" against any of the series you've chosen to aggregate, and
this will remove them. You can also click "Delete" beside a series name to delete
an entire series.
Note that you can only choose to aggregate sources that are measured in the same
units as one another. Once you have chosen one series to aggregate, you will only
be given the option of adding other series in compatible units.
